I know I LOVE Firefox 3’s latest release candidate 1. The browser is definitely the fastest browser I’ve had the pleasure of using. And, I’m totally in awe of their reconfigured bookmarks tool called Places. Still trying to find a solution to sync bookmarks across different browsers (meaning it’d be great to sync the pages I mark on my work vs. home laptop).

Kind of like Google Sync (which isn’t available yet for Firefox 3) or like what Firefox’s Weave project is supposed to accomplish. Weave is exactly like Google Sync but is currently broken. But, I digress… I’m here to talk about my favorite part of the Firefox browser (the sidebar), which has always existed but which I’m using ever so often these days to manage my browsing habits.

3 Steps to add LinkedIn to your Firefox sidebar

1. Add the bookmark

Once you’ve Firefox 3 installed or in earlier versions. Go to Bookmarks >> “Organize Bookmarks” >> And, add LinkedIn’s mobile site URL (http://m.linkedin.com/) to a bookmark. Important: Don’t forget to check the option to “Load this bookmark in the sidebar”. Here’s how:

2. Pull up LinkedIn Mobile

Once that’s done, click through the bookmark, and it should load in your sidebar as follows:

3. And voila! LinkedIn Mobile in your Firefox sidebar

And, so if you wanna search for someone on LinkedIn when you’re on TechMeme for e.g., pull up the site in your sidebar and do a search. Of course, you can also work out the various other aspects of using LinkedIn.

Unfortunately, I’m not too thrilled about all the pages (from “Search” to “Settings”) opening outside the sidebar on the browser as opposed to opening on the sidebar itself.

Anyways, tomorrow I’ll publish a list of my Top 10 Firefox bookmarklets that do a great job opening in the Firefox sidebar and making my work day so much more productive. Stay tuned.
