Taking the Nikon D80 for a click-through! June 20, 2007

This past week, I’ve been trying to find some excuse or the other to try out the new loaner Nikon D80. All three situations I tried out the camera didn’t permit me to try out some of the more advanced feature set of the camera but the teaser was fascinating. However, the jump from a point-and-shoot (my favorite Canon IS SD-700) to a serious DSLR affords a couple of basic thrills as an amateur photographer. One — the ability to capture fast moving images (check out the “Anatomy of a softball swing” featuring my colleague Byron at a recent LinkedIn softball game)

and secondly, the depth of vision. Even the flowers in my patio look extra nice. You can see the same level of detail while I focus on one person and de-focus the second person in the picture. Or if you click through the images below you’ll see the depth of vision very clearly.

Also, let’s not forget I’m still in auto-pilot mode as far as the camera (Nikon D80) features are concerned and I can’t wait for the weekend to start tweaking it to achieve more desirable results.
In addition to tagging every image taken w/ the loaner camera as “nikond80″ in my flickr collection, I’ve also created a collection of different sets of pictures on my Flickr account that’ll contain all the images captured with the Nikon
My Flickr collection of images taken with the Nikon D80 (this will be an ongoing collection; check back the link for regular updates or better yet bookmark it). I wish Flickr allowed one to subscribe to a RSS feed of images within collections or sets.

Also, thanks to CK, for reminding us what the branding terminology of the Nikon campaign was. I was under the assumption it was called “Blogger Outreach Program”, but CK confirmed it is the “Picture this” campaign. Thanks, CK!

Why you’re welcome. It’s so cute that you’re thanking me when I so absolutely disagree with this program (and that’s why I know the darn terminology
. But hey, if I can do my part to uphold good branding practices then I’ve at least been a good marketer.
Have a great week. Talk at ya later.
Sure thing, CK.
And, yes, we should chat. It’s been forever since we did.
