Couldn’t post today, since I’d to rush back to work and I was exhausted yesterday. The third day of the Expo turned out to be quite informative, despite a slow start (being stuck in traffic for 45 minutes is not a great way to start the day). I’ll keep myself really succinct in the next few paragraphs, briefly talking about the highlights of yesterday.

1. Battelle w/ Eric Schmidt

Of all the sessions in the morning, John Battelle’s interview/chat with Eric Schmidt was the most entertaining and I thought despite the challenging questions thrown at him, Eric Schmidt handled the questions in a very diplomatic yet effective manner. Convincing? You be the judge. Here are a few links to coverage on that Q&A session:

2. Charlene Li & the Social Networking Panel

from l – r: Gina Bianchini, Reid Hoffman, Matt Cohler, and Mike Speiser

Given that I work for LinkedIn and am interested in all things social networking, attending this event was a no-brainer and it turned out to be the most insightful with a sprinkling of great questions from the audience. I’d also have to say that Charlene did a great job as a moderator. For those of you who’d like to be one, check out these rules by Guy Kawasaki. But I digress…

3. The .0 evolution (from 1.0 to 2.0)

from l – r: Jeremiah Owyang, Lionel Menchaca, Jeffrey Veen, Matt D. Jones, Scott Hirsch

This panel had my good friend, Jeremiah, along with fellow panelists picked from companies such as Dell, Nokia and Google. The conversation with the audience featured some good examples of how corporations can adopt relevant social media techniques with examples from Hitachi and Dell.

Also, check out pictures from the my past three days’ experience at the Web 2.0 Expo 2007:

Day 2: From VC 2.0 to Community 2.0 (Images)
Day 1: Ustreaming Community Evangelism (Images)

Personally, I benefited from the panel discussions on community evangelism, social networking & VC 2.0. What was equally important for me was the opportunity to meet with peers from the industry, outside of the workshops and panel discussions. If I had to complain, I’d blame Moscone’s lack of power outlets and poor wireless connectivity, which didn’t permit my live blogging for too long.

Here’s an overview of the event from the San Jose Mercury News.

Sounds like you had a great time Mario.
Meeting your peers and other interesting people was probably the most beneficial aspect for you. I attended a seminar on Tues. for Salesforce.com ; the highlight for me was Partner Relationship Management and giving Channel partners the tools to better communicate with customers. Unfortunately after that it got boring because it’s about a single company with many demos/features (yawn), and not enough diversity and stories to remain engaged.

If I lived closer, I’d love to go to the more interesting shows in the bay area has to offer.

Yes, exactly, Mario!

I’m sure every geo region has its slew of events to attend. The Bay Area is of particular interest to me given its focus on tech and emerging tech in particular.

I also read CK’s great write-up on you. Way to go!
