Long time, No Blog March 21, 2007

Yes, it’s been almost a week since I blogged and I’m really apologetic. I just realized that the longer you take a break from blogging, seemingly the more challenging it is to re-start the thought process. Anyways, I thought of rekindling my blogging spirit by linking to some of the more interesting posts in the marketing blogosphere:
1. MarketingProfs’ Book Club — Hosted by CK: CK’s back with the Book Club sequel. This time around the book that is being discussed is Al and Laura Ries‘ The Origin of Brands. Mack’s joined the discussion too and so have others. Why haven’t you joined, yet? That’s the question, I’ve got to ask myself?

2. Mr. President 2.0 — In recent times I’ve blogged on the intersection of social media and politics. Karl Long had a great post recently on the updated stats for social media links (myspace, youtube, and flickr) of current presidential candidates (via sites like TechPresident).
Speaking of Digital Politics, Drew Clark at GigaOm talks about the evolution of Politics 2.0 asking the all important question: “can Web 2.0 in 2008 truly displace the “MSM” as the premier medium of political discourse? Can the blogosphere bring down the mass-market media stage?” Can it? What are your thoughts?
3. Adcasting: Gone are the days when every corporate marketer was skeptical about a new type of media called podcasting. Apparently, there’s so much confidence in podcasts these days that eMarketer “expects advertisers to spend more than $400 million on podcasting by 2011, up from $80 million last year, according to a report scheduled for release later this week.” (via Business Week). Do you know of Fortune 500 companies that podcast…effectively?
There’s so much more to blog about… See you tomorrow.

Dude, where you been?
I was on the book club many hours earlier today.
On politics, I was part of an early Obama LA group that was organizaing for being an online info and rally center. Much enthusiasm at first; it waned as I have more important things in life to volunteer for and make a real difference.
On adcasting, I like the idea. Niche marketing at some of its finest and the attention is there.
I’m back!
I’ve been planning on the book club for ever. Guilty.
It’s interesting to find out that you WERE a part of the Obama LA Group
“Can the blogosphere bring down the mass-market media stage?”
Personal opinion: Not yet. Most folks still consume political coverage through TV & through personal interactions. I think it will take many years for a dramatic shift to occur, largely because video on the web (video is better on TV) is still in the infancy stages. Will social media have some sort of impact on tech folks like ourselves? Probably (we digest information much differently than the average American).
I’d agree with you, D. The early adopters are definitely going to be influenced by social networks in general. However, mainstream adoption is probably another 5 years away.
Welcome back Mario! Dive in at the BC, I’ve really been surprised at how chatty Al and Laura have been. I knew they would contribute, but they have both jumped in from the start!
And you’re right about the blogging breaks, seems like after you’re gone for a couple of days, then the pressure starts lol
Hi Mack!
Good to hear from you… I guess it’s just a matter of starting; whether it’s blogging or getting into the marketing book club.
But it’s actually a good idea since it’d force me to read thought-provoking marketing material.
Welcome back, Slacker. : )
Of course, I should talk… I haven’t blogged in a blog year, either, it seems. Crazy how crazy things can be!
Thanks for the support of the MP Book Club. Mucho appreciated.
ha ha…Yes, it’s been a while since I read your posts, Ann.
Glad to see CK do her bit to promote the reading habit among us marketers.
I always feel guilty for not participating though. Definitely plan on joining sometime soon.
Now for the mandatory “Are you on Twitter?” question?
Hiya Stranger (we’ve missed you). First off, thanks for promoting the book club. It’s been so successful thanks to everyone giving it promos (thanks!) and, as I just commented at Drew’s blog, has brought me so many new friends the world over, so much marketing insight, a way to connect with top authors and, most of all, a way to give back to you good marketers.
Don’t ever feel guilty if you can’t take part, the book club is very flexible so you can jump in for a session here or there…and you are NOT going to want to miss the next segment…it’s amazing who I’ve got lined-up–I have to follow-up Al and Laura Ries with a big splash, no?
Also, the data is always over there for you to read through–quite insightful all the guidance from markets and Al and Laura (whom we have kept quite busy!)
Hey there, Oprah of the blogosphere!
I may try the diet-book club where I can participate in a forum or two.
Also, I can’t wait to see who you’ve lined up for the next one; is it Guy? Godin? Gotta be one of the two…Right?
